what on earth is the appeal of the Emirates?

A few weeks ago there was a thread (now locked) on the appeal - or lack thereof - of the Emirates vis a vis Saudi Arabia. One of our male posters cited "s**" as an attraction of Dubai. I found that comical, but maybe that's just me.

Why do you find it ''comical'' that male posters see s** as one of Dubai's attractions?

When I said 'comical' I meant in a pathetic sort of way.

You can't be doing too well if you dream of Natashas...

on the 'KSA v UAE' thread I wrote:
It's a bit like choosing between Brave New World and 1984. In Dubai you've got sex, soma and the feelies to distract you. In Saudi there's no compensation for the bleakness. Except for the money, of course.

Are you referring to this, Cleo? Why not get me on the drugs charge too? That'd be a double-whammy indictment: lecherous sex pervert and junkie!

They'll stone ya when you're there all alone. But I would not feel so all alone, Everybody must get stoned.

S** can, of course, be bought in the Magic Kingdom. Her Majesty probably isn't aware of this since she will never have taught Saudi males.

What do you dream about? Hot water bottles and knitting woollen socks?

Anyway, he's talking about having it, not dreaming it.

Nothing 'perverted' about being deprived.

Actually I have (taught Saudi males that is). Not that one needs to have done so in order to be aware of the market in such commodities here.

Well, since you ask, the substance of my dreams was displayed in pictorial form on this very board some months ago. You may recall that some of our male posters didn't much approve.

Odd distinction, since for a few rial anyone can 'have it'.

I wasn't really referring specifically to the evil dirty filthy act itself, and I never mentioned Natashas (I think that was Cleo.)

Here's a 'CliffsNotes' explanation for my Brave New World references:
sex = normal and legal relations between men and women
soma = alcohol
feelies = cinema and theatre and concerts

Seriously though, why do you need to go to Dubai to 'get' that? And before you mention segregation, it's worth pointing out that prostitution and, indeed, s** between unmarried individuals are also crimes in doo-buy. The laws may not be strictly applied, but then they're not always enforced in KSA either. So the 'legal relations' thing doesn't really change.
