Thanks to you folks who responded to my last post about San Luis Potosi. I've never been to Aguascalientes but the Lonely Planet describes it as ''friendly even by Mexican standards''. |

Can't really help you much on this one. I spent only 1 day in Ags. The people seemed friendly, on a par with most Mexicans. I have heard of the city having a friendly rep. You should really check and see what Johnny T. wrote about this place. There was an in-depth discussion. Search for "Leaving Mexico?" |

I've heard mixed stuff about it, mostly good though. Anywhere has to be better than SLP. |

When I first arrived in San Luis Potosi, I met a Chicano who said ''Welcome to Rancho Culero.'' |

That about sums up the people... no, not all of them are like that though they are famous for it. It was even on the national news a few months back. Some Mexicans had visited SLP from another state, they remarked how beautiful it was but were so put off by the attitude of the people. I've been here more than two years and I have to say that the people I've met (not foreigners) who weren't mamona or sangrona, I could count on one hand. SLP: You'll either love it or you'll hate it. |

Keep in mind that in Mexico the altitude has a great effect on the weather. It's only on the coasts and lower elevations that the temperatures are really high. Up in the mountains, it can be quite cool, even in the summer, which is the rainy season. When it showers, there can be cool, even chilly, weather conditions. |

Don't panic!! Even in the high country, it gets warm in the daytime, even in the winter, but not extraordinarily hot. In winter, it can get cool in the evening, requiring a warm sweater or light coat. I've never been to SLP, so I can't comment on the weather there, my experiences having been in and around Mexico City, Puebla and Toluca. Even in the winter, if you go from, say Mexico City to Cuernavaca (which is at a much lower altitude), you will find warm weather. I hope this helps... |

You know that Mexico temperatures are measured in Celcius, Che2007? I don't think 17C is terribly cold. We hit 8 here at the coast sometimes over the winters, and thats a bit nippy. Right now, where I am, we are still dying in 35C and can't wait for winter temps! A hurricane is brewing on the Pacific Coast so our weather could get even more interesting in a few days. Enjoy the winter in SLP. Mexicans call it "fresh". |

Certainly not! One of the best things about the central states is the perfect climate...never cold, never hot, at least for this Canadian. |

17 was the high today, it started off lower. You feel it when one day it's 32 and the next is around 17. It can get as low as 0 even -1 in SLP.
Right now it's the rainy season. They always put the fair on during the rainy season for some reason. Anyway, it's (relatively) cold till about February when the weather turns weird, March too, then it's scorching hot again until the following September. The winter wouldn't be so bad but as the houses aren't built to contain heat, you tend to feel it. Locals will tell you that it actually snowed here once. They will also complain that it's either too hot or too cold - Potosinos a fin de cuentas. |
