Here we generally have moveable individual desks. I let the students choose where to sit, although some other teachers like to play their petty politics and make sure nobody sits next to their friends or next to a student of equal ability.

Another teacher puts his students into a circle and they work like that, but he is also a Scott Pricklebury follower, so I don't hold that against him.

I think it is best for the students to pick who they want to sit/work with, that way all the lazy ones gravitate together and drop out of the running. Twisted Evil Survival of the Fittest Twisted Evil

I usually sit on the desk when I am not standing, except in my 12:00 class where there is a chalkboard and I basically try not to approach any of the furniture.
