| Thanks fluffyhamster et al. After checking out that sticky thread, messing around with the fonts, and looking at the ascii version of IPA, I decided to buy http://phonmap.com/ . I hate to pay for anything, but it seems to make things much easier. I have all the characters memorized now, and made supermemo flashcards, so I should be able to remember them. |

Sometimes I think Americans hear nothing but /x/ and /?/ when a German opens his/her mouth. And, in fact, I did mean to write /x/. What kind of velar fricative would a glottal stop be??
Anyway, glad you got your program and the IPA all settled, OP. I may just be on the high of the outset of my degree program, but I think phonetics is pretty cool. Hope it comes in handy for you in the classroom or elsewhere. |
