I thought i would share my experience with you..as i had a blast out in tokyo...there were goods and of course bads.. but how boring would such an experience be without the bads..
so i lived and worked in tokyo for 14 months...
first off.. visually.. the place is crazy.. its the biggest and busiest place in the world.. thats for sure. However..the people are lovely.. totally respectful and polite with one another.. they have cultivated the art of living in harmony in such a mad place.i think its the only place i have been to in the last 8 years of travelling that have actually managed this.. amazing.
The work.. hm.. dont let anyone kid you.. its long hours and hard work. -no matter who u work for-But its japan... they all work like dogs.. and actually.. even though u think ure working harder than everyone else.. youre not. Some of my student business guys had a bed in the office and never saw the family.. so bear that in mind.
A little hard work doesnt kill u.. and u aint there forever.. and i began to be grateful that im not japanese.. and that i was merely visiting to have a look and see what was going on ...
Toyko.. hm.. its busy and noisy and colourful,, its boring sum days and annoying,, its hilarious and crazy and plain bizarre.. its simply a place that i cannot compare to any other.. its a place that u really do just have to go and vibrate with.. then ull know what i mean.
I had an absolute scream there!!!
The reason im writing to all of you is because i would like others to also go and have a look... before its too late.Westernization is ruining it...has already i think... so GO.. just GO GO GO.!!! Lose yourself.. you can..
I worked for Shane english .. they are a good company considering all the bad ones in tokyo. The pay is good.. the holidays are great.. the days are busy and make u wanna scream sumtimes.. but if youre a teacher and wanna make a difference in your students lives.. Shane has the opportnity for u to do so.
There are goods and bads about Shane.. try not take the apartment.. its very expensive.. I recommend staying in a guesthouse.. its a bit noisy yeah.. but its half the price.
Saving in tokyo is possible. Dont let anyone tell you different. I partied all year.. bought clothes.. but made my own lunch, shopped at the markets and drank wine at home before goin out... and i came away with 500 000 yen.. which is pretty good . The end of year bonus helped alot.. And my advice.. open a 2nd bank account and transfer 50 000 Y each month. It works!!
Tokyo is never boring.. its hot! Very hot... theres alot of concrete and traffic.. but its clean and the people are...lovely.. shy.. but lovely. Its also the safest place I have ever been.. amazing really.. and im from south africa.. so!!!
In my opinion.. avoid Nova- there are too many people that i know that have had bad experiences with them-and u work on christmas day-arghhh !!!
in a nutshell.. dont let anyone put u off going.. pack your bag and go!!!
the experience is what u make of it. Yes.. u will be lonely.. and yes.. u wont find your favourite jam on the shelf...but u are in a foreign land.. and those rough shite times.. remember.. u arent there forever.. just get on your bike and go for a cycle...

Right, very interesting/helpful/patronizing and don't let anyone tell you different as ure in a foreign country.
So, tell us about Shane. How great were the holidays? What constitutes good pay? How cuhh-razy was Tokyo?

Actually, I think you'd find that most of the foreigners living, teaching and posting here are doing very nicely, and that the atmosphere of this board overall (especially compared to other sites) is quite friendly. However, people do get a bit bothered by the troll posts, not to mention individuals too lazy to do any research on their own. E.g., can you believe that someone once was so asinine that she started complaining because "i'm looking for info. on hong kong and it's frustrating to have to search through everything else."

Maybe she lived right in Tokyo for 14 months, but in the outskirts before that. The suburbs of Tokyo only counts as Tokyo when you want to prove a point, right?  The language she used wasn't 'quite' right, but try to give her the benefit of the doubt.
Anyway, sorry about the blonde comment in the other thread. I was referring to the cutesieness and language of your post, not your actual hair colour of course! I'm happy you were able to just have fun and save 500,000 yen. Good on ya!
I do find it a little disheartening you've only been a week or two out of teaching, and you've already forgotten English. On the other hand, maybe it's a lovely thing. I'm not sure... |

Hey all
Im constantly surfin this site for new ideas and help and you lot are real helpful..so figure i could ask your opinion.

Oh yeh-and im thinking of going for JET-is that a good idea??
