Anyone on here seen any job openings for qualified Librarians in the UAE? Does your establishment have a library/LRC? I'd like to hear - either on the board or by PM.

Almost all academic/research Institutions in the Gulf have Libraries!!! So try your luck.

Libraries they have, but has anyone ever seen an Emirati, or a Saudi, reading a book ? Not THE book but 'a' book ! I have not and I have been working in the Middle East for over 30 years !

I have to admit that they are rare, but I have actually had two locals over the years who were readers... who, in fact, borrowed reading material from me as they too found the book stores expensive. This was in English, of course, no casual readers in Arabic... not that there is much published for them to read anyway - a cause/effect thing there.

It is quite noticeable that Arabs do not generally read books - for any reason.

Thanks for those replies (!) - as it happens I have applied for 3 Librarian posts in the UAE - so maybe I will get lucky. Can't be any worse than KSA. Can it?....... Rolling Eyes

our midlle school/high school needs some one in the library, perhaps you should contact them, it is the abu dhabi grammar school. good luck
