I'm an ESL teacher currently teaching in Dalian, in the North East of China. I have a long (two month) winter break for January and February 2008. Going to Japan for a month or so to work during the break is one possibility for me.

Does anyone know if there are any avenues in Japan for this kind of temporary/'winter camp' type work?

Cheers!

Not to make you not try it but, this is a slow time for conversation school and it would be hard to do ALT for just one month. But you should look into it and see about those companies that have really short contracts...I dont know the name but maybe someone here will...

I hate to be a wet blanket but you have two more responses than the last person to ask this question suggesting winter camps are pretty thin on the ground.

Go to a ski resort and wash dishes for 600 yen an hour. A friend of mine did, though his sister sorted the job out for him. He didn't save any money but he had a good time snowboarding during the day, and he got accomodation thrown in. He had trouble getting paid at the end, but I think it was a problem with that particular hotel as a whole. Probably easier than trying to get teaching work for two months. By the time you sort anything out it'll be time to go.

Heh heh, I served food at a ski resort restaurant for 600 yen an hour when I was 20. Accommodation was free, food was provided and there wasn't much to spend our money on up in the mountain anyway so I saved most of what I was paid. That was on a working holiday visa.
