I've seen a few job ads that have requested one (or a TEFL certificate--not just the CELTA), but I'd say those jobs are the exception. For K-12 teaching you need a credential and for community colleges and universities, you generally need an MA. TEFL certificates usually aren't worth much in the US job market.
