So if you take a job in the UAE on your spouses' sponsorship and receive a labour card from an employer, when you eventually leave that employer, is there an automatic 6 month ban from working in the UAE, or does that only come w/ sponsorship?

Employers looking to hire a spouse already on a spousal visa don't issue labor cards as far as I know. It's a widely practiced "under the table" job with minimal liability for the employer.

That is common, but I've certainly known of people who did get labour cards and were on their spouse's sponsorship. I'm just curious if having the labour card means that you are 'bannable' when you leave, or if that action by the govt is really about sponsorship.

Good question. And it makes sense that an employee would be subject to being banned or any of the liabilities which bear upon an employee. Issuing the labour card then makes sense as it works in favor of the employer.
