I'll be going to Bangkok soon to start a new job and would like to know where the best areas are to find a decent apartment. I'm looking to spend around 10,000 - 15,000B, but can spend a little more. Any advice would be appreciated.

The best place to live in Bangkok is close to your new job. The less time you spend sitting in traffic, the better. 10-15K should get you a very nice place in most of BKK.

Very good advice above and to which I would add that it is always a good idea to try and get a place close to the MRT (subway) or BTS (elevated SkyTrain):

I agree with laconic. Even if you don't mind springing for taxis all the time (I don't mind) - it is almost always faster to to use the Skytrain or subway. Traffic in certain parts of Bangkok makes it such a hassle to get around that if you don't live in the right area - you just don't go out.

Last time I lived in BKK - I had a three-minute walk to work - but the location was so lousy that it was a real hassle to get out and meet friends or really do anything that wasn't a 20 minute walk from the apartment. Even the taxi ride to TESCO took longer than walking it. . .
