If your life were a movie, what would the theme song be?
I think mine would be "I'm so Bored with the USA" by the Clash. |

"Half a Person" by the Smiths.
If you have five seconds to spare, then I'll tell you the story of my life...

|
|
Hard to pick just one song - the older one gets, the more there are that seem to fit. But what the heck, here's mine:
On The Road Again ( Canned Heat)
Well, I'm so tired of crying,
But I'm out on the road again.
I'm on the road again.
Well, I'm so tired of crying,
But I'm out on the road again.
I'm on the road again.
I ain't got no woman
Just to call my special friend.
You know the first time I traveled
Out in the rain and snow -
In the rain and snow,
You know the first time I traveled
Out in the rain and snow -
In the rain and snow,
I didn't have no payroll,
Not even no place to go.
And my dear mother left me
When I was quite young -
When I was quite young.
And my dear mother left me
When I was quite young -
When I was quite young.
She said 'Lord, have mercy
On my wicked son.'
Take a hint from me, mama,
Please don't you cry no more -
Don't you cry no more.
Take a hint from me, mama,
Please don't you cry no more -
Don't you cry no more.
'Cause it's soon one morning
Down the road I'm going.
But I aint going down
That long old lonesome road
All by myself.
But I aint going down
That long old lonesome road
All by myself.
I can't carry you, Baby,
Gonna carry somebody else.
Regards,
John |

The Hell of It by Paul Williams in the greatest rock opera ever produced, Brian De Palma's Phantom of the Paradise. Lyrics below.
THE HELL OF IT
(Lyrics & Music Paul Williams)
Roll on thunder shine on lightnin' the days are long and the nights are frightnin'
Nothing matters anyway and that's the hell of it
Winter comes and the winds blow colder well some grew wiser you just grew older
And you never listened anyway and that's the hell of it
Good for nothin' bad in bed nobody likes you and you're better off dead goodbye
We've all come to say goodbye goodbye
Born defeated died in vain
Super destruction you were hooked on pain and tho' your music lingers on
All of us are glad you're gone
If I could live my life half as worthlessly as you
I'm convinced that I'd wind up burning too
Love yourself as you love no other be no man's fool be no man's brother
We're all born to die alone y'know that's the hell of it
Life's a game where they're bound to beat you and time's a trick they can turn to cheat you
And we only waste it anyway and that's the hell of it
Good for nothin' bad in bed nobody likes you and you're better off dead goodbye
We've all come to say goodbye
Born defeated died in vain
Super destruction you were hooked on pain and tho' your music lingers on
All of us are glad you're gone |

|
|
The theme song for my life changes with time and passions.
When I was young and first at Uni, it was 'I am Woman' Then "Dream the Impossible Dream", "5 Little Ducks went out to play" (singing my chn to sleep) followed by "What about me" through my divorce, "Treaty Now" for current passions and for where I am headed - I was born under a ...."Wandering Star".
Maybe one of these days there'll be a song about old age being great - Maybe "Home among the gum trees"?? - |

Howard Jones "Hunt the self"
Humans Lib album, 1984
Messing around I've wasted my time for years
Listening to friends who keep filling me up with ideas
Having deep talks with scholars who sound so fine
Hearing this sham is like getting drunk on cheap wine
Well it's time for a change
I've got to move on
There's got to be more than this
The feeling is strong
Look in better places gonna look inside
Gonna get higher something is pulling me on
Breaking down the old ways feeling no regret
Gone are the shaky sands I've been building on
Well it's time for a change
Well I've lost lots of friends
I've got to move on
By sticking to my ground
There's got to be more than this
I don't give a damn
The feeling is strong
Just look what I've found
Here I come now got no time to frown
Nothing in my way now nothing can bring me down
Feel that surge open the doors around
Higher and higher the world is my hunting ground
Well it's time for a change
I've got to move on
There's got to be more than this
The feeling is strong |
