Looks like a dream job, only ten hours a week and 7000RMB a month.

Only teach the conversational English to the middle school
Only teach 10 hours a week
We offer RMN7,000/month
We provide round trip air fare
We provide fully furnished free accommodation

Nothing is what it seems in China. From the information you gave us the job looks respectable. However, are there other duties you are required to perform like meeting parents, recruiting for school? If you are required to just teach your 10 classes per week and the accommodation is suitable then maybe this is a reasonable job. I still remain doubtful.

I think that if you've asked enough questions to make you satisfied you will be entering a good situation, then go for it. That "seems" like a dream job. I'll echo the other poster: have you asked about extra duties, hours, responsibilities? Is 10 hours 10 classes (doesn't really matter, even 15 classes at that pay is okay)? It seems like a cool gig but you'll really never know until you actually get there, sadly.

I asked them to get my husband a visa and I got this reply.

Considering you've posted the entire gamut of school contact information I'm sure they'll give the job to someone else and you won't have to worry about a Dependant Visa

Possibly. If it's legit. But, if they don't give me the job, then it wasn't meant to be and I'll find a better one.

From numerous previous threads, I get the feeling that generally speaking, highschools do pay much better money than colleges and universities do. This may explain the seems-too-good-to-be-true salary vs. number of hours. However, it is also important to note that typical middle school classes have anywhere from 60-80, or even more students per class.

I am also concerned with the fact that the school is looking for a FT now -- weeks after the school term has begun. Also, a public highschool that has only been opened for three years?

I hope it is all a true deal and works out for you.

I've heard of others getting these types of positions, so it is not impossible but often rare to find.

I will tell you again (for the record) the most common salary and hours found at a top 25 University located in Beijing.

Qualifications: 3 year+ experience
Masters degree = Med +TESOL certified and MBA (for business background)

typical hours- 20-25 per week 20 hours contract 5 extra @ 120-150 RMB an hour.

Hours: varies 8-5 with specialized evening courses till 9 (upon demand)

Base Salary 5000-6500 RMB a month

Housing typical package and benefits.
-----------------------------------------------------------

This is a generic contract I've often been offered or have seen at the Beijing job fairs.

Therefore, the salary is higher than normal, and hours very below average. (Allows you to travel or boost your income with private work at the 100-200 Rmb per hour level.

In comparison with my honesty about the typical offer given to most FT's, you got a very good deal.

Hopefully, this is the one you been waiting for.

I know about typical salaries. I lucked out last time. Got 6K for teaching 2 hours of kindergarten a day,but I was with my own class from 8 to 4.30, recess, eating, etc.

They just told me that they won't get my husband a Z visa. They don't seem to know about visas. So I guess it's open to other people who don't have family travelling with them.

Also, they won't send me teachers' emails or photos of the school.

One thing with this position, it is for a private school, not a goverment position as the visa would be done by the provincal education office which would know how to process your husbands visa. So you are dealing with a private high school.

Dependent visas are not that difficult to obtain in China. Although the school may not know how to get you one, the local immigration office will. Other schools have spouses and occassionally even children of teachers whom they may assist in obtaining visas. You may simply have to deal with this little problem on a more proactive basis. And some schools would probably prefer to just hire single teachers and avoid that extra bother.

Right. I emailed them info about the Z visa and told them that it was for workers AND their families. Now they say that I could get the job, after the interview and everything.
