|
|
Over a million blogs have been shut down in Turkey! I kept coming across Wordpress while trying to search stuff over the last week, and got that same page that came up when they banned You Tube, so I looked into it a little.
Wordpress has been shut down because of the whining of this fellow. He claims people said bad things about him. It's possible Telekom didn't know the difference between blocking access to a few websites and to an entire blog host.
I find this ban a little scarier than the YouTube, however, not just because of the background of this guy, but because the ban originated in a Fatih court. And also because the YouTube one was admittedly a little funnier.
Maybe the slippery slope fears aren't too far off, because this Adnan Oktar sounds like a complete nutter. |

How about this one: http://williampryor.wordpress.com/,
I was doing a bit of genealogical research, found this guy on wikipedia, they refer to his personal website, I find I can't access it! I don't know enough about him to begin to explain why it can't be accessed. It makes me more curious to find out, though!
Can anyone outside Turkey have a look at the site and suggest why we are not allowed to view it? |

I don't exactly know what happened with wordpress but it is the Turkish way of solving 'problems' just like in youtube case. Close your eyes, pretend that it is not there. There you go! |

bunch of *beep* |
What they want (at least the majority of them) is not freedom of religious expression. They want everyone to live according to 'islamic rules' (at least according to their interpretetion of it) That is why many of us are against this headscarf thingy. If it was just a religious choice we wouldn't give a s**t but it is not. Letting girls into universities has got nothing and I mean it absolutely nothing to do with freedom. It is just their next step in accomplisihing what they are aiming. I am sure there are many women who want to wear those only because that is what they believe but over the years the religious fundemantalists (politicians) have abused this. They used those people's situation for their own political interests. And now this headscarf thing is not just a piece of cloth. It is a symbol that stands for what those cave men fighting for.
I'm sorry I realize this is off topic but I couldn't resist. |

All million+ wordpress.com sites are blocked. What I can't find is what exactly was said to slander this Adnan Oktar, as most sites discussing this topic tend to be wordpress. Interestingly, the guy who did the slandering was this winner. So it's like one kind of religious nut against another.
What really bothers me, though, is not just the censorship itself, but that it's the State taking nationwide action on behalf of ONE GUY. I mean, the You Tube thing was bad, but somewhat predictable because they teased Atatrk. This one just makes me really nervous. |
