Hi,
I've arrived in Oman recently and have started working for Sohar College. It is definitely the worst place I have ever worked for. I would avoid it if at all possible. I'm sorry I came here.

Isn't it a bit too soon to decide that it's the worst?
What seems to be the problem?

Welcome to a new season of "The SoharNos"....in the opening episode of the second series...the story so far...

Tuesday -25th September -series#2/ep1- a teacher, who had been fired back in January - i.e. a full 8 months ago now- for physically assaulting a colleague, returned yet again to Sohar College of Applied Sciences, in spite of his being barred from the campus by the Dean during a previous return visit!

This teacher berated the College management for causing his current visa problems. Teaching on a tourist visa is proving to be a headache for him.
Just a few hours after this confrontation this 'hitch-hiker' posting appears. Purely coincidental? -the viewers wonder...could there be another twist in the tale?
Some viewers may recall hitch-hiker's initial posting on this forum....when he was advised by a certain poster to stay away from Sohar College. Was that adviser himself?! Mad Surely not?!
Archangel has just been barred from posting on this forum now, hasn't he? Hmm! A coincidence?! Archangel described the victim of the assault referred to above as "a menace" in a recent posting....Coincidental? Could Archangel be the assailant of the former associate of the London Bombers? Did he know that he was punching someone who had been trained in the British Special forces in how to kill people? Surely not?! Could hitch-hiker be Archangel and/or even Steppy-boy? The plot thickens....

In 2 side plots:- another new teacher arrived for his fist -sorry -'first' -day at Sohar College yesterday, dishevelled and smelling strongly of whisky. His very first words to his new boss, the HOD, are recorded eternally:- "Where can I get a permit for a liquor licence?" (One of the best lines of either series so far, IMHO).
For some reason -(perhaps it is because the nearest AA Groups are as far away as Muscat and Al Ain)- the HOD requests that this new recruit be returned to sender, i.e. Hawthorn...Cut to oldtimers scratching their heads.... They're wondering if the record for the shortest stay at Sohar College's English Department has been broken again.

In the second sub-plot: ; a third teacher takes sick leave again. Was it something he didn't eat? We'll just have to be 'patient', too.

Personally, I can't wait for the next episode....I'm hoping for a camel chase.... I like camels...just 'like' - and only in a nice way....

Great style of writing, Geronimo.

Maybe, you should get into the movies, writing scripts, et al.

Can't wait for the next episode! Laughing

What a soap opera this place is... Rolling Eyes

And people wonder what I have against the system of using recruiters...

The system seems to definitely increase the ratio of the normally unemployable to good teachers.

Was this the vacancy advertised by CfBT? In other words, is it CfBT that recruits for Sohar College?

...... and what is the next episode?

BTW, Geronimo, are you a believer of the conspiracy theory?

So, why not hitch-hike and return back home?

Iull, it's obvious that Geronimo is desperate to get out of the teaching game and into Hollywood as a screen-writer. What an imagination!Sarakershaw, read Geromino's posting to answer your question about what's wrong with the College. It seems to positively attract alcoholics en masse.
Geronimo, I am glad that you have finally seen the light yourself and admitted to yourself and to others what a dreadful place this College is.

Nope. CfBT recruits for Nizwa, Ibri, and Salalah.

Back in May, hitch-hiker, you started a thread on this forum entitled -
"Should I avoid Sohar College?" Obviously you held initial misgivings....

So, what was it that drew you here like a moth to the flame? What siren song could have coerced you into this error of judgment? Were you spellbound by the magnificent architecture that is the Globe Roundament? Were you enticed by a copy of the "Sohar So Good" newsletter?
Or, was it the psychedelic flashing of night-time Lulu's lights that entranced you?

Of all the colleges and all the training institutes in all the world, why did you opt for this one?
