I hate my apartment. Well, I don't hate the apartment as much as the nosey, noisy, selfish assholes who surround me. They seem to think that the whole apartment block belongs to them and their incredibly spoilt children. And as for the so called management...

No discipline - that's the problem.

Hi Skyblue (Man City fan?)

Taman Rasuna has the cheapest places to live in central Jakarta. 1 bed from 3.8 a month F.F. I pay 4.5 but the furniture is all modern and new, so you get what you pay for.
2 bed from 4.5 to 7 a month. Again, you get what you pay for. The cheapest option is to share - although this has its problems also. People always want to share on expatforum.com, but meet and lay ground rules first. Typically 1 year in advance - but 6 months is possibe and occasionally 3 months. However, you will pay more per month for these options.
The best place to find them is actually within the towers, on the GF there are notice boards with lots of agents. Patience is the key and look at lots of places before you choose.
Personally, i love my flat and the facilities. The pool, tennis, gym and shops are so convenient, i wouldn't have it any other way at the moment. When i get married things may change but for now it's cool.
Good luck

I'd never again live in a house in jakarta. in such a humid place, you would think its a great idea to open the doors and windows. Yes, in comes the breeze. also at your door are beggars and singing troups who sound like cats who need to be fed, also there are the motor cycles (diks on bikes) with the exfoliating exhausts, scooting around at 4.30 am and 11.30 pm, and the security guards who wish to teach the foreigners who is the boss, by playing dangdhut all day as loud as possible. I thank them immensely for the inspiration to get a real life and a real job in the west.
Apartments are the best alternative in jakarta. Dont live in a house. Word.

Rolling Eyes
I agree that living in a house canm be better thjan an Apartment, but it really depends on what area you live in. A kampung house will have social restrictions: No eating during Ramadham, No Guests of the opposite sex, etc.

However a house on a housing complex will have no such restrictions. The difference is, houses on housing complexes are often in the suburbs of Jakarta. You need your own transport.

An Apartment offers you the Western style privacy a Kampung house does not. Also they are usually centrally located to main roads, Malls and public transport in the center of jakarta. They can be cheaper than a Kost, and more spacious.

Its the best of both worlds........
