If you have a chance please go read this. Someone obviously ht the autmatic translation button on the electronic translator...and then didn't edit.

Ha, reminds me of a lawyer in Costa Rica, who claimed he spoke English (let's just say I speak better Spanish - and my Spanish is limited to 'Hola! Como esta?') His 'writing' was somewhat odd, but it didn't 'hit' me until I realized the last name of our realtor wasn't Necklace but Collar - the translator turned it into Necklace, naturally
btw, he's still our lawyer, and is a great guy, but I asked him to, please, check his 'translations' first

I've never used these automatic translator systems. Are they all this bad?

Hey VS!

For the most part, they are only really useful for getting the gist of what you want translated. No matter how hard programmers try, translation software simply cannot parse meaning as good as the human mind!!

Even WorldLingo, which is attached to Word, (and one would think, THEREFORE, that it would be a decent translation/translator) cannot render anything beyond a word for word translation rife with errors.

It's good for a laugh though!

I once had a student surreptitiously using a translator during a test (I hadn't noticed) when the DOS walked in. This startled my student, who dropped the translator on the floor. Upon impact, the blasted thing began to say "kill...kill... kill..." over and over. No one wanted to pick it up - and I was too choked up with laughter to help out.

I just feel so sad for my kids when they come in to class all smiles to show me what Dad has just bought them. I say that's lovely but I'm a bit old fashioned- I love books.....

I remind them of me myself I in my GCSE class many moons ago and that we have to be REALLY careful with dictionaries of al sorts...

I was very pleased with my new Petit Robert thesaurus in French. We had to do a translation from English to French and one line was , 'She put her feet up on the stool"...'She put her feet up' I knew, the rest I looked up. I argued black and blue with my poor French teacher that the word in my translation most definitely DID mean stool.(I was a difficult student). Well you know the rest........
