...and to think that ADU is just 200 meters down the street from the Petroleum Institute, where I worked. I often saw the ADU students (mostly female pan-Arab, not local) hanging around outside the "campus" (a single low-rise building). I felt sharp pangs of pity for them as I drove by on my way to work at a bona fide university. Oh well--maybe they can transfer to George Mason or AUS. |

Most likely they couldn't afford to go to AUS and GM is still a mysterious question mark.

True about affordability, although don't count out the legions of rich Lebanese in AD and elsewhere. And I don't think George Mason is a question mark. They will be there. |

Just to correct global nomad 11 about the students that go to ADU. Many of them have little choice but to go there if they are non Emirati as most universities in the UAE are for nationals only especially in Abu Dhabi. So a friend of mine who joined two years ago because she is Palestinian had little choice but to go there - it is not cheap and she cannot transfer out to another non existent university. She hopes to leave with a degree which will get her a decent job in the UAE where she has lived most of her life |

There's AUS and AUD and Sharjah University that I know of... plus a number of private universities in Oman. Of course, she would have the added expense of living in a hostel if she was a resident of Abu Dhabi.
Hopefully it will work out for her... The Palestinians are in a tough situation as relates to education. But, at least now they have some choices a bit closer to home. They used to have Cairo and Beirut as their closest options.

Does anyone have any more recent information on ADU? (the last post was in 2005) If anyone has worked there recently, please let me know! |
