The really fulfilled women are the ones which are very happy when sitting on the sofa with their husbands, drinking a cup of tea and discussing with each other.

Ho ho! An inarticulate exiled maths teacher of indeterminate nationality (though it's clearly somewhere backward, as evidenced by the Neanderthal-like attitudes of Abba) knows 'what women want'.

How often do you think Mrs. Abba gets let out of the house? Once a week? A month maybe?

Quote:
In contrary, the model of some women of this modern world, including little Cleo, are 10 times more likely to be severely depressed than they were 50 years ago, twice as likely as men.

Is it just me, or does anyone else notice Abba's command of English has taken a severe turn for the (even) worse these days? Or is it just that, when the subject of women is broached, all of that repressed anger comes out and blocks whatever passes for Abba-style clear thinking?

At least his avatar is improving... I like this one...

While his English seems to be deteriorating, his sexism remains firmly in the 7th Century... Cool

As far as I know, Mrs Abba works in a school and gets out of the house at least 3 or 4 times a day, and she has the full liberty from her husband.
In addition, I have heard that Mrs Abba holds a driving license, and when she travels with her husband to UAE or Oman she has the opportunity and the privilege to drive the car after crossing the border of the magic kingdom to UAE. Whereas little Cleo is stuck alone in her single apartment in the magic kingdom thinking about her future plans!

Oh, thank you VS for my avatar.
Do you think it deserves 5 stars? Laughing

What I'm more interested in is what Mrs. Abba does when she is not with her husband in the UAE or Oman. I mean, being as she has "the full liberty from her husband", chances are she gets off for the odd weekend with the girls. I mean, what's good for the goose and all that...

The question is not "Why?" but "What is the source for that little statistic?"

Not to mention -- that is one of the most illiterate and ungrammatical sentences one could hope to show a grammar class.

I guess you are an American and, at least, you should have some information about the dangerous sickness happening in the streets of the US .

You want the source for that little statistics?

Oh good lord, this really is going well beyond a farce!

Our esteemed primary school maths teacher regales us with quotes from the Daily Mail. The Daily Mail for god's sake! Erstwhile Nazi-supporting "news"paper beloved of small-town British curtain twitchers who think all Muslims should be deported, and how doubtless would regard Abba as being rather irresponsible in letting his wife leave the house 3 (or was that 4?) times a day. Women, the Daily Mail will tell you, ought to know their place.

Whatever next, quotes about Arabs from MEMRI? Oh wait, that already happened.

Oh good lord, now Cleo is deviating from the main topic, and complaining about the Daily Mail, because it does not suit her bubbles!

Regardless of the source (whether Daily Mail, BBC, or MEMRi), the above statistics reflect the reality, and you cannot run from it!
You have to face the reality, these things are happening, and thats why you still single, living in a single apartment, and dreaming about your future model hero! But, unfortunately, your dreams are un-realisable.

You know, Abba, I reckon the only reason you have not been (re)banned is that people find you too stupid to be genuinely offensive. Plus, you undeniably provide comic relief: not only do you have to steal my lines, you now are stealing my words too.

you still single,

So Cleopatra is a woman living in the U.K.? I never knew that.

This is one of the more ridiculous threads... as ridiculous to assume that Mrs Abba is not happy with her married life as it is for Mr Abba to assume that Ms Cleopatra is not happy with her singleness... wherever it is.

Especially when one unscientific study is used as some kind of proof. Try googling and read the numerous studies of this topic that have been done over the last 40 years...

For the US, over the years a summary of the many studies I have read have generally come up with the obvious fact that married men tend to be happier and live longer than single men... while single women tend to be happier and live longer than married women. And much depends on how the study defines 'happiness.'

Which is meaningless when you get down to individuals... and doesn't generalize across cultures.

I did not know that the English words are a private intellectual property of little Cleo?
They are not your words, they are the words of the English language, and I am entitled to use them as anybody else in this world.

Any scientific study or reference which backup the above?
