I have an M.A. in TESOL and 3+ years experience in the U.S., China and Korea. I've been wanting to come to Indonesia for several years and just wondered if there would be any good legitimate jobs for me.

I am not really interested in working with children. High school would be as young as I'd care to go.

Can anyone offer any advice?

Hi,
I think with your qualifications you would easily find a good job.

The pay isn't the best in Indonesia, Middle East is more, but it's very cheap so you can save alot if you want to. I save about $1,000 a month now, and live a very comfortable life.

Good luck.

Thanks for the response.

What kinds of jobs should I be on the lookout for in Indonesia? Is there any way to escape teaching kids in Indonesia?

Depends what you mean by kids. If you don't mind the senior high age group there are usually a few decent jobs every year in the better national plus schools at that level.

If you have QT status as well then the international schools are well worth a punt.

Look back through the archive of this thread and note down the names of schools that turn up again and again like a bad penny, avoid them like the plague, and you shouldn't go wrong.

well stated, well stated indeed.

...however, your choice of "always" is a bit strong. still, it is good for each prospective teacher to do as much research as they can and try not to depend too much on what people here write

Hee hee! Well, certain of these 'good' schools seem to recruit an awful lot of 'bad' teachers if staff turnover is anything to go by.

Laughing Laughing Laughing

I have never actually seen ANY of the good schools trashed on this website. I have often seen several acronyms trashed but never good schools.

I'll give you three. Singapore International School, Raffles International and St. Laurensia.

All are established schools with a proffessional ethos and progressive curriculums. If you look in this forum you would be discouraged from applying for a job at any of these schools.

But you said that good schools are always getting trashed?

May we have some examples of good schools.

With an MA in TESOL, you might want to market yourself to the teacher-training colleges (generically known as IKIP) and other schools of higher education, especially if you don't want to teach children and teenagers.
