If you are referring to the Reynosa at the northern border of Tamaluipas, across the river from McAllen, Texas, I'm an expat who used to visit or pass through the city, 1984-1999. It's a typical big border town, dirty, in the shadow of Texas, not at all a typical Mexican place like you find in the interior. I am considering Veracruz state, but I think Reynosa is too close to Texas. I never taught in Reynosa. |

Ive also passed through Reynosa more than a few times and I knew a few people who had relatives there. I would avoid it like the plague. Its very dirty with a high crime rate and the traffic is insane, more insane than other parts of Mexico. Its not a place you want to teach IMHO. Typical border town really. |

I still have family in Brownsville, and have passed through all the Texas border towns from Matamoros to Juarez. They are dirty, crime ridden, and half Texan. They are far more focused on Texas than on Mexico. All the way to Tijuana, the border is desert, often flat. Not like the Mexico we know. |
