Hey Ghost,
Good to hear your point of view. I haven't ever visited Korea, so I don't have any opinions on it.
What I've been reading on these boards (not only this one) though, is that most people rate Korea last out of the three in terms of quality of life, and Taiwan usually first. Now, I am aware that these are just peoples' subjective opinions and not necesssarily fact.
The heat/humidity and pollution you talk about exists in Japan too...and I would say there is a general feeling of apathy in the people there.
In fact, I've never met a more depressed people than the Japanese - in spite of their wealth, they believe they are poor, and in a lot of ways, they probably are, since wealth does not necessarily come from having lots of money. It comes from having a fulfilled life, and sadly enough, I saw so many people in Japan whose lives seemed to be sapped out of them.
You talk about Japanese culture...I personally love Japanese culture, but a lot of it has been taken from the Chinese, a lot of the food that is popular there has been taken from the Chinese...their writing system is mostly taken from the Chinese...the list goes on and on.
I always smile when I hear about the "uniqueness" of Japanese culture.
Finally, speaking of the Japanese trying to combat the bad aspects of modern living...this is another issue which certainly deserves its own thread, but I will tell you that to the best of my knowledge, no country has consistently wrecked its own environment more than Japan...if you find any nature there that is unspoiled, do let us know
No, seriously, there is some nice nature in Japan, but you really have to look hard for it...
This is not to say I don't like Japan, the fact that I spent three years there means I really liked it. In fact, I love some aspects of Japan and the Japanese people, and am not too crazy about other aspects, but I guess it's like that no matter where you live. |

Stay in Japan! The women here are such perverts! On numerous occasions some woman has rubbed her bottom against me, or grabbed me in a spot, well you know where!
I am not gay, I just believe in having all my misery come from one person my wife! I am not interested in cheating on her, you can say I am a miserable married man.
The last time a woman rubbed her bottom against me, I was on train that was not so crowded I stepped back to make some space between us, and she stepped back and continued. I wanted to say something, but the language barrier and the thought of everyone thinking I was gay stopped me from confronting her. When the train stopped, I got off and waited for the next train and so was late to work.
I have also been grabbed while stepping off and onto a train. Usually the woman is going in the other direction. I teach adults three nights a week in each class there is a woman who flerts with me. I can't wait for my contract to end, then I am going back to Japan!!!!!!!! |
Im sorry, but (especially to people currently living in Korea) this post is like a mega-anti-deterrent for people considering going to TW. |

LOL!!
Yeah, I kept trying to figure out whether that guy was joking, high on drugs, or actually genuinely upset at being grabbed by women in Taiwan!
Posting an advertisement like that in the LA Times would give schools like Hess and Kojen a 1000% increase in applicants, if not more |
