Sorry, I don't use Inside Out, I use New English File (Oxford), which is excellent, but your idea is good, especially as Guy told me you have a "real" English accent, unlike me! (Derby + South of England + a little American intonation and vocabulary!). |

I'd feel that way too if I didn't have a small pension check arriving every month from US Social Security. As it is, I can cover my basic expenses with my check and need to work only to supplement it and pay for things like health insurance, working papers, and fun. I really can't function at all in the classroom when I've had to crawl out of bed at 5 a.m. after having slept only a few hours. |

Need say no more...that changes everything!! If I had an additional income, my willingness to get out of bed before 9am would decrese pretty proportionately with the size of the pension check I'm getting! |

So you use the Internet to contact the possibly hundreds of companies placing job ads in El Universal on Sundays without knowing whether or not they are looking for English classes for their staff? What sort of feedback do you get for your efforts? My level of computer literacy doesn't extend to using Excel and Outlook Express, as shameful as you may find this , and I don't want entire companies as clients, so I don't think your method would be workable for me, but I do congratulate you on your enterprising spirit! |

The fact that they might not be looking for English classes is irrelevant - many of them are, or maybe not, but the brilliance of my ad get's them thinking. How many flyers get thrown on the floor? Business is a numbers games: enough numbers and you get the business. The response is fantastic in proportion to the amount of work involved, which is about 1.5 hours copying the addresses and 5 minutes loading them into outlook, once a week on a Monday morning. Even if it were hard work, I believe this:
A little hard work now for little reward leads to a big reward for little work later. |

True enough...but this is Mexico City. 25 million people and lots of work. I turn down more classes than I take. |

I know your new to the ELT business, so here is a tip. Write to or Call Coodinador Acad�mico, of Oxford University Press M�xico, S.A. de C.V. I'm PMing you the name, phone number and email address. Tell the Coodinador Acad�mico that you are using New English File, gush a little bit about what a great book it is--easy with New English File. Tell them the TOTAL number of students your business is serving--not just the ones using New English File (use the highest number of students you can say with out lying). And they will GIVE YOU the audio CDs. For free. teachers book, workbook, and if your numbers are high enough maybe even the video or mulit-rom that goes with the text. They will do this because they assume you are requireing you students to buy the student book. They would probably also send you sample copies of student books at the higher levels, and some business English texts for you to have a look at. |
