I have been teaching Elementary school in Australia for more than 20 years and have a 3 year Diploma of Education from a recognised University plus a Graduate Diploma in Library Studies. In Australia these qualifications gave me degree status(pay-wise). I was recently offered a teaching job in Singapore but my prospective employer said that they could not get me an Employment Pass as I did not have a Bachelor of Education. Apparently MOM in Singapore is insistent that all teachers have a Bachelor of Education in order to get an Employment Pass.
I have looked at jobs(elementary and EFL ) in many Asian countries and most stipulate a B.A.and/or TESOL qualifications. I will probably do the CELTA early next year. I have worked as a teacher in an International School in China for 3 years but I would like to try somewhere else. What other countries would recognise my qualifications for work visa purposes? Thanks. |

It sounds like you went through the normal school teacher education system.
Your best bet is to actually contact a faculty of education in Australia, tell them your situation and find out if there is a summer programme that you can do after which they will confer a Bachelor of Education or a Bachelar of Arts (education) or even a non-major BA.
The current laws in most countries for foreign teachers are not set up to deal with your education, and it would be better to go at it from the source of the problem rather than deal with every single employer individually. |
