| I'd advise to advertise everywhere you can, irrespective of what people tell you is good or not good for them, especially if it is cheap, free and/or easy. There is nothing to lose. Spread yourself all over the place! |

But, it was more interesting to think you picked up a girlfriend by Segundamano... |

�Did�and �got�are the verbs to the sentence. �who wants.... is the apposition clause describing the attorney.
Should I diagram it for y�all?�
She wants four hours of classes and a boyfriend-information in an apposition clause describing the lawyer.
The main clause is the first half of the sentence and has two verbs. The only possible grammatical fallacy would be I too did a Segundamano online, which actually would be better off written I too did a search on Segundamano�s website online, but whether that be the case the main clause still has a grammatically correct main verb in �got�. Yes a main clause can have two verbs, as can a subordinate clause take two direct objects.
Whether you accept the fallacy of the main clause, there should be no reason to dispute the meaning of the subordinate clause.
And should you differ, then I challenge you to make the correction, English teachers y�all. |

I agree with Guy that geaaronson's sentence lacks clarity. It should read as follows: "...my first students, an attorney who wants 4 hours a week and her boyfriend to boot. [My corrections are in bold.]

The last few messages have inspired me to post an impromptu quiz (all in good fun) to show how confusing English really can be, depending on how it's written and depending on how it's interpreted.

Shouldn't there be commas before and after "TOO"?
Alternative meaning: She wants 4 hours of classes and she wants a boyfriend to take her aggresion out on. (or shouldn't that be... on whom to take out her aggression (ending a sentence with a preposition and all that))  |
