Yes, it would seem that furry cute little hamsters have plenty of time on their paws. What in the heck do my credentials have to do with anything? I just mentioned it to show I'm in good standing. The thread is about registering with school boards, not about my employment history. Writing about that, to me, would merely be a waste of time. Guess that's why I never liked playing cards either. As I mentioned before, if you're curious PM me.

Here is the answer for anyone interested in applying for an ALT position:

I'm not sure about every school district in Japan (some might recruit directly), but I had to go through a company called MAXCEED (マクシード) http://www.maxceed.co.jp/. You simply fill out a resume online (what- again???) and submit your data. They are definitely nation wide. However, it seems that most elementary schools hire directly.

Just read Glenski's post. Yes, of course I appreciate help and the altruism.

If you haven't noticed, I started another thread at the same time as this one on getting day work and no one has responded at all. I would think that topic would be useful for many people.

As for the stepping up/stepping down thing I've mentioned about three times now that I'm just looking for something temporary until I can find a decent permanent position

Yeah, I read it earlier. Fukuoka is (from what I heard) a pretty tough place to find work, so I'm not surprised at your lack of success there. I'm at the opposite end of the country, so I can't be of much help and didn't choose to answer for that reason. Best of luck, though.

Quibby suggested opening a preschool. Aside from your feelings on that (and any legal concerns or health concerns that you might have to meet), what are you doing for your current eikaiwa as far as advertising and curriculum goes? Self-owned eikaiwas seem to thrive only if they have long-standing customers or a variety of courses they can offer. Business English classes, teacher training, anything specialized or customized for the community.
