Various sources on the Japanese version of Google News are reporting that the Nova board of directors met and fired Sahashi, and that Anders Lundquist is one of three daihyo torishimari-yaku of the company.

One report:

The only English report I could find at this stage was this:

He's one of three directors representing Nova, but Watanabe was the top man, and in any event, the courts are in charge now.

The first time I saw that picture posted on Let's Japan I thought "nice photoshop, they make him look like a complete freak". I had no idea that it was a real picture.

It's not very nice to laugh at his hilarious, Muppet-like features. Shame.

I was at the meeting on Friday when he was explaining to staff what had happened. The guy really is a condescending ****hole. He was evasive and rude to the teachers asking questions, particularly regarding unemployment benefits and what teachers have to do to claim them once the company declares bankruptcy.

No!!!!!!!!!!! Say it ain't so, Joe! I mean, it was an INTERCULTURAL CORPORATION! Don't you realize that that and 400 yen can buy you a cup of coffee?!?

Seriously, I'm sorry for the innocent foreign staff who had the wool pulled over their eyes and the rug from under their feet, but working for NOVA was, without equal, the most disgusting period of my professional life. The NOVA method was not grounded on any science or research, but rather motivated by money-grubbing desires.

To be lectured by my branch manager on how I wasn't teaching correctly whilst working on my M Ed. in TESOL, when many of the other teachers at my branch were out socializing and "leveling up" their student "friends" to curry favor and favorable reviews was the height of hubris!

After my wife, waiting for me to get off work, overheard one of the Japanese staff try to get someone to buy a new lesson package and using the carrot, "if you complain about one of the teachers, you'll get a discount on the next package and to find out that the teacher that the student finally complained about to get the discount was disciplined...well, God Bless NOVA...I won't!

You got just what you asked for. I'm just sorry about the "floatsam" left behind by that sinking ship!

Good Riddance!

I'm disgusted by this story, but not surprised. About a month into my eight months at NOVA, if they told me the sky was blue I would have looked out the window to confirm.
