I've had it twice in the last 6 weeks and 3 times in the last 2 years. Is anyone else experiencing this?
Just trying to figure out if this a common problem for foreigners in Taiwan or if I just have bad luck.
Thanks,

very common, especially if you eat from street vendors....i have several friends who picked up some kind of poisoning or a parasite and have been hospitalized for 24-48 hours because of it.... |

Yeah, I figure you're right about the street vendors and night markets. I'm not sure where I'm getting it though; I'm vegetarian and I never eat at night markets or street vendors. Well, once in a while I go to a local vegetarian restaurant for dumplings and tofu, but even that is rare. I mostly eat Western food. Anyhow, thanks for the feedback guys.

Been in Asia a long time now and luckilyI've had it only twice, once in Japan and once in Taiwan.
And both restaurants were hig-priced / quality restaurants - Not street vendor food. I've lived in Thailand and eaten street food constantly with no serious problems. Maybe I've just been lucky.
The Regent Hotel in Taipei was where I got my food poisoning.
Man, did I get sick. |

I eat street vendor food almost every day, and have never had a problem. In the 12 years I've been here I've had food poisoning twice...once from 7/11 food and once from a western restaurant. |

I feel for those of you who have had a visit from Eartha Kitt!!!
I suppose if it's possible to judge which food shall make us ill then we would avoid the bad stuff at once. If only life was so black and white!
However, to turn the question around about, don't you consider Taiwan's food to be very greasy? Most lunchboxes are dripping in cholersterol and I don't really worry about Eartha making a visit but more my arteries clogging up. Anyone share that feeling? |
