Hi,
Has anyone ever bought or sold a second hand airconditioning unit and had it uninstalled - transported - reinstalled in Osaka/Kobe?
I'd appreciate any info anyone can give me about costs, contacts. Who can I call to do this kind of thing?? No idea where to start with this other than the obligatory search of ESL cafe which came up with only one post.I'm sorry I don't speak Japanese, so I'm kind of limited in Googling for this information myself.

Thanks!

Yes, but not anywhere near the Kobe/Osaka area.

About a year ago someone I knew was being relocated from here in Kyushu back to the Tokyo head office by his company and had a not very old, quite expensive aircon unit to somehow dispose of. He agreed to let me have it, if I paid for the cost of uninstalling from his old place, and installing into mine. That came to Y15,000 for everything.

It was a good deal for both of us, as I got a damn good aircon for around a fifth of what it would've usually cost. He got rid of it for nothing, which in Japan, is not always so easy to do.

Sorry, can't help with any local advice, but my suggestion would be to bear in mind that unwanted appliances often cost people a fair amount to dispose of and they'll be happy for you to take something off their hands. Ask around as much as you can, and IF you can find someone in that situation you may be in luck.

Second hand?? A new unit can be bought pretty cheaply and they often throw in the installation for free.

Check out your nearest Bic Camera.

You must piss ichi-man yen bills then if you consider 40,000 yen cheap. That is about the cheapest I've ever seen, and that may or may not include the install fee.

15,000 is a heck of a deal and if you can't install it yourself, often moving companies offer aircon re-install service. Also the local appliance shop (Bic Camera) may do it as well -- for a fee of course. Going rate for aircon install is roughly 10,000 from what I remember when I last had one installed.

I got one installed about 4 years ago from Bic, about 25,000 including installation. It was a special deal though but they do free installs quite regularly on certain brands.
