To the original poster, I would say that if teaching in Japan is your dream please don't give up on it. Do as much research as you can to help make it come true. There's a Website that is based on a book that contains quite a bit of information from women with all different kinds of experiences. The book is quite good as a refresher on Japan life or as a guide for complete newbies. The book is called

Being A Broad in Japan
Its by Caroline Pover

The Website is

www-being-a-broad.com

It has some information on childcare and schools, its a bit sparse but apparently there is supposed to be more in the book. If you can get it from a library I'd recommend that, and if you really like it , its available through Amazon.com.

Dream to live,
Where are you from originally? If you are from the States, you can possibly apply to get a job on an American base teaching over here. They will provide childcare and you can live in Japan. I only mention it b/c I know two single moms who came over here and are doing that. Both live "off-base", meaning in a Japanese house and only work on the base. One has been here 4 years doing that and another 2. They both seem to enjoy it a lot. That's one possible option.

Definitely don't give up on your dream. You can come over here and make a nice life for yourself if you are willing to budget a little. Its expensive but not horribly expensive, as lots of foriengers are living here and obviously enjoy it.

****Now reading your earlier post, I see you are from Canada? FYI, Canadians can also teach on base.****

nawlinsgurl,

Thanks for the idea. I never even thought of that. I will definitely check that out.

Hey where are you in Kanagawa? I used to live in Kanagawa.
