Hi everyone,

I'm sure many of you have seen reports about the upcoming strike on November 14th. Now, on that same day, I've got students at a university who have to do their final presentations ("exposees"). Now, I'm aware of the fact that those who live outside Paris might not be able to show up. However, now I see news reports of students actually joining the strike!

I'm going to do my best to show up to class...

But I'm curious: how would you deal with this?

I'm really interested to know how some of you dealt with the CPE issue too.
I'm a real stickler when it comes to completing all assignments in my class. Who wins? The strike? or me? Or am I being too "Anglo-Saxon?"

Thanks!

As a vacataire if you don't work you don't get paid.

After the last teacher strikes, the striking staff still received their salaries for the days when they did not work.

Vacataires did not get paid for non working days.

There will probably not be a picket line so you have no worries about 'scabbing".

Some of your colleagues will be working normally.

Most of the students will not show up.

The final result will probably be nothing to show for the action except a few headlines, a couple of photos and 30 seconds on TF1 news.

During the CPE mess, I went to my classroom (there were no picket lines to cross); there were no students. I got paid. I didn't have any evaluations planned that couldn't be rescheduled, so I didn't have the problem of deciding what to do about assignments missed because of strikes. It could have been thorny. Good luck.

During the CPE strikes, some university chancellors issued instructions that students' grades should not be prejudiced because as a result. So you may be expected to reschedule them.
