Late December to February 10? Is your situation really that bad that you can't endure an additional 6 weeks?
Bear in mind that Spring Festival is February 7, 2008. You may not have to teach for the last week of your contract (I believe the 'workers' holidays begin on Saturday February 2).
And, are you going to forego an airfare allowance by jumping ship 6 weeks early? |

A handsome sum of 5000RMB, that he may or may not get. Don't let the airfare allowance decide if you want to jump ship. |

Perhaps it's time for Dave Sperling to change the name of this forum to The China Illogical & Irrational Commentary and Advice Forum.
To a person who has declared that he doesn't have enough money to make a trip to Hong Kong, advice is given that the prospect of receiving 5,000 RMB should not be a factor in his decision making process.
It's no wonder that many school administrators view foreign teachers as peculiar, difficult-to-manage creatures! |

| There's no airfare allowance. I came with "pennies" because "pennies" is what I had. I plan on staying here for longer. |

My neighbor had an expired visa. He sent his passport back to the USA and had a visa company there process a new multi-entry F visa. He got it back in 10-days. Cost him $290

What about the exit and entry stamps? Did this visa company get these too? Are the exit and entry recorded on the PSB computer?
This was common practice in Thailand until a few years ago, when the Thai authorities suddenly clamped down - virtually overnight and without warning. Quite a few people were arrested for having "fake" visas and stamps. Strictly speaking, they were not fake as some tame immigration officials had been paid off, but try using that as an excuse as they're hauling you off to your cell.

| Anyone contemplating sending their passport on a holiday should give serious consideration to the potential consequences. What if the passport just disappears? What if you are for some reason required to produce the passport while it is away on its little jaunt? What if there are no exit/entry stamps? What if the visa and stamps are forgeries? These last two scenarios were also very common in Thailand, with unscrupulous so-called agents either obtaining a legitimate visa, but with no record of the exit and entry from the country required to actually get it, or alternatively, blatant forgery of the exit and re-entry stamps, which did not of course appear on the Immigration Department computer. Caveat emptor. |

| The cheapest option would be to catch a local train from Beijing to Guangzhou for 300 to 500RMB then catch another train to HK. Get the visa straight away then return. Thats the cheapest option!!! If you can't afford that, then you can't afford to go to Mongolia. The thing I can't understand why someone would come to China broke. You are basically at your employers mercy. Do yourself a favor and get a job at a public school, yes you will still be broke, but at least you will have the correct visa. |
