First post here ... I'm a recent graduate looking to teach adults or young adults in Japan or China - but most of the jobs advertised seem to involve teaching young children. Are there any particular institutions or agencies I should target if I only want to teach mature students?

And is there any hope of getting a job in Japan at all right now with all those ex-Nova teachers seeking new positions?

In Japan, you're going to find a mixture of such things. Some schools will have classes only for kids, only for adults, or classes offered for either.

In Japan, you're not really going to be able to pick and choose much these days. The market is flooded with teachers, and the largest chain conversation school just went bankrupt (due to illegal business practices, not due to lack of students), so there are thousands of its teachers on the streets right now looking for work. Some are even working for meals!

What age do you consider "young adults"?

I have nothing personal against kids but I probably wouldn't want to teach anyone under the age of 18. Smile
