Maybe it is ok for traveling stories...but...for everyday it really sucks. It is 11 and I still havent gone to the toilet...I have to go..but I dont want to...haha...
I think I am getting used to it though...and I never get sick either but it is just the thought of all the germs...but I will survive!
I am glad that other have had the same troubles as me. hehe. |

| How common are crouch-style toilets today? When I was in Ajiro some buildings had both while some had one or the other. It seems that most new buildings seem to opt for western toilets. Is this true for most new buildings/houses? |

Almost EVERYWHERE I have been (except older train stations) have an option of both. This is the first school that i had that didnt...
Oh, and I think I have been using the thing backwards all this time...it explains some of my problems...haha |

I just remembered about the toilet roll behind thing- that means you are facing the wrong way, yes. Face the toilet roll- that usually means facing away from the door.
In most subway stations in Tokyo there are either only Japanese style toilets, or perhaps one Western style one at the end. JR stations almost always have one Western style one but the rest will be squat.
Generally the newer a building is, the less likely it is to have any squat toilets. Older department stores I have found sometimes only have squat toilets. |

| I tried it the other way and it is MUCH better..haha..I can even hold on to the flusher for leverage...hehe...maybe this is to personal? haha! |

Because a lot of Japanese guys think it's cute.
But, I agree with TigerBeer, the pigeon-toed walk thing is annoying. That combined with all the baby-talk they (pigeon-toed walkers) do just makes them look like the Japanese equivalent of inbred trailer trash. Come to think of it... maybe inbreeding causes some people to walk like that.

People talking 'about you' rather than 'to' you  Often it seems that my friends and I are either the subject of conversations or seem to be a catalyst for recounting some recent experience/encounters with foreigners.
Personally I can't imagine starting to talk about my experiences - good or bad, in Japan, when some Japanese person happened to be sitting near me on the train or at the next table in a restaurant !  |
