Tell you what, let's spool this all back to the very beginning. Now, if I can take your head out of your own backside long enough to prevent you making any more of a caricature of yourself, I'll pose my "badly worded, vague and ambiguous question" once again. Now, and you'll need to really concentrate for this bit, fight back the urge to be an unfriendly boor, keep things nice and simple, avoid all pointless pedantry, and reply:

It's not easy. Period. For every job opening, there are dozens of applicants.

The best places to look are the web sites I mentioned, plus making contacts.

Andare: Thanks very much.

PaulH: No problem. Glad to be of help.

Easy, isn't it? Wink

Should you have a sudden desire to reply, please count to ten and then move on with your life. It really isn't worth spending any more of our time on. Capissco?

You might also want to add the time of year you will arrive (the large eikaiwas hire anytime, and NOVA doesnt just have university grads but teachers in their 40's and 50's) whether you want to teach kids, companies Does your list include eikaiwas or do you want to teach at a high school whereby you can only get jobs at certain times of the year and you usually need to know somebody before you get an interview? or you can try one of the dispatch agencies that send teachers to high schools.

Still not quite sure what you mean by organised and professional school though- NOVA for example has been around for 20 years and they are listed as a public company on the Tokyo Stock market with a board of directors and thousands of staff on their payroll. They have been using the same teaching methods in all their schools since they started in 1981 so they must be doing something right as they have no problem getting students.

You also didnt address my last question about what was and what wasnt professional development in your opinion.

Andare

Might I suggest you do what everyone does that arrives in this country seeking work and rather than holding out for what may be a hot tip or a cushy number, is actually pay your dues, get your feet wet by applying for schools, not believe that the world owes you a living and find out what is the best situation for you. All people can really do on this board is give you advice and tell you where to look (as Glenski did in his first post to you) becuase my feeling is that no one who is onto a sure thing is going to share it with an anonymous person on the internet, for fear that they may actually steal his job or there is nothing in it for them. Why the hell should they, anyway.

I will usually tell people about (good) jobs I hear about but those people are usually friends and people I trust, and not some one I meet for the first time on a bulletin board.

Glenski and I can give you advice, but ultimately I think you have to be willing to pay your dues first by coming here, rather than expect some kind of free ride at our expense.

Not only that I dont personally believe that there is one company that can offer you everything that you are looking for, and you are going to have to make some compromises and adjustments along the way. But that is only my considered opinion, for what its worth. take it or leave it.

Andare, if you look carefully, you'll see that it was I, not Paul, that made those two curt remarks above. And, your reply was not as simple or polite as you posted here.

Ok, so where is it?

Considering the vulgarity with which you just posted, I hope the moderators lock out this thread. It has gone nowhere, but not due to the helpful responses you have received.

Glenski

with the snotty attitude and clarity and precision of thought that Anadare has displayed I can see why he has been happy playing in the 'farm' leagues in Korea.

Maybe hes not ready to play with the big boys over here just yet.
