Disaster...I went three days then it all fell apart in the face of a large pizza.

It's just as well, Guy, seeing that Thanksgiving is coming up in about a week!

Oh lord, there's 2 or 3 kilos to add on.

As you know, MO, we're doing a Thanksgiving potluck at my place next Sunday, the 18th. Folks can PM me if they'd like to come.

Good thing you mentioned the date - I thought it was Saturday the 17th. Now if I can only figure out where to buy a pumpkin pie...

You are celebrating American Thanksgiving, Guy? Oh my! What has Mexico done to you? Our turkey day was last month!

It's a bit early for the Yanks, but we have a three-day weekend to take advantage of. Plus, with so many more Americans around than Canadians, we get a better turnout in November.

I did have a turkey sandwich on our October Thanksgiving at least...

I thought the Canadians celebrated Thanksgiving on November 1!

I remember standing on the balcony of the tiendita overlooking the autonomous community at Polho' in Chiapas, and realizing it was American Thanksgiving Day, 1998. We only had lentils for the meal!

I did Weight Watchers via the internet for several months while I was in Morelia and lost 20 pounds. I like WW because if you do the Flex Plan, you can still eat anything you want in moderation. It was harder to do in Mexico than in the US because sometimes I would get these recipes that looked good, but then I couldn't find all the ingredients. I managed OK though and it worked. They have a special section for men, which my boyfriend joined after he saw my results.

I am hoping to get back to my Italy Weight when I come to Mexico. As I still don't know if I'll have a kitchen or not, I'm starting to worry (and look for clothes with elastic waists).

Yesterday's Thanksgiving meal was fabulous and authentic down to the last detail: turkey, stuffing, cranberries and pumpkin pie, with lots of wine to wash it all down. Thanks for organizing and cooking most of the feast, Guy and Christie.

Thank you, MO. It was a lot of fun and everyone that came made it a true Thanksgiving by bringing something to the table. Nice to have a piece of home once in awhile.

The other Canadian teachers and I are wasting away! Vegetarian food in Guadalajara restaurants is hard to come by, I'm not enticed by many products at the supermarket (I have never seen so much processed food and especially MSG in my life), the market near me is only weekly so I tend not to buy too much produce, and I'm sick about two days a week. I'm also out in the suburbs with nothing that close by, so I joined the (huge) gym across the street and work out about four days per week. Then there is stuff like hiking Barranca de Huentitan, etc... and seriously, I am losing as much weight as I did when I was detoxing hardcore. Except that here I eat Tandem bars. Every single day.

Stop looking at the American imports and start going to a local market.

"A local market"? We have a weekly street market (Thursdays) in my neighborhood, otherwise there are three Sorianas (one might still be a Gigante?) and a Sam's Club within walking distance. I'm in the 'burbs. My neighbours drive Hummers and BMWs. In Italy there were little fruit and vegetable shops around my apartment, but there isn't really anything like that near me here.

Pinguinos aren't American imports, are they? And I've never seen a Tandem bar outside Mexico!
