One guy was sitting in the back of the classroom on a windy, drizzly Thursday afternoon. The lesson was "Which is worse - to be mauled by a polar bear, bitten by a vampire or attacked by a giraffe ?"

The groups were divided into three, with females and males as evenly split as Matron would allow under the circumstances.

Matron received a call on her Nokia 9130 and left the classroom.

The girl in the second row (next to the oval window) stood up and announced that she wanted to begin the debate once we had taken a break.

This was not really a major problem as they have whiteboards in all classrooms and pens of different colours.

In the previous lesson, one week earlier the theme had been, "Which is better - to have lots of friends, lots of money or lots of cigarettes." The monitor circulated around the classroom and gathered the notes taken from the files that students were requitred to bring with them.

And here was the most unusual and abysmal thing : she refused to lead her team and wanted to nominate Cathy.

Matron returned and did not find amusement.

Confused

Have to own up to farting a few times, once rather loudly when I made a sudden movement from one side of the whiteboard to the other.

Once, during the pollen season in Ankara when all that cottony stuff starts drifting down from the plane trees like a mid-summer snow-storm, I had a really, really bad sneezing fit right there in front of the white-board with my prospective employer observing from the back. There was a large patch of greeno in the middle of the whiteboard when I looked up. I nonchalantly tried to brush it away with my sleeve, which just spread it about all the more. One of the students eventually left and returned with some tissues and a bottle of cologne. I carried on for the remaining 15 mins with a listening-exercise, still snuffling and sniffing away. At the break I fairly ran to the toilets to blow my nose. I glanced in the mirror on the way out, and there down my jacket lapel...

No, just too humiliating to spell out.

No, didnt get the job either.
