I'm leaving for Taiwan in January to teach English. What vaccinations should I have or do I need when I come to Taiwan? The list I've seen is Hep A & B, Japanese encephalitis, measles, and tetanus. Do I need proof of these vaccinations?

You don't need proof of vaccinations in order to enter the country or live here. Vaccinations are simply recommended. Hep B carriers are more common than in the west and Hep A is spread through food handling etc, so these are probably smart to get protected against. |

Is a Typhoid vaccination something I should strongly consider? Also, are the risks of getting Japanese Encyphelitis in Taiwan comparable with getting West Nile in the west?

Could I benefit financially by waiting to get Hep A and Hep B shots in Taiwan as opposed to the states (I don't have health insurance)? Also, am I at a high risk of contracting either of these if I come to Taiwan without vaccinations beforehand?

I never even thought about vaccinations when I moved here 12 years ago, and the only disease I've picked up so far is middle-aged spread.

I think the vaccinations are much cheaper here. I'm not sure, I'm from Canada, and my company health plan covered the costs for me before I left for Taiwan. I know the cost of most medical services here is nothing compared to the over-priced nature of medicine in America, so you may be better off waiting.
