The "marriage for life" doctrine, imho, results in stable families with, again imho, children getting the best deal out of it.

Interestingly though, the human being is designed to be polygamous. If my memory serves me right, the human is the only mammal to reproduce throughout the year.

However, the benefits gained from being married for life make it worthwhile.

Companionship during the twilight years, save for the demise of a spouse.
Freedom from STDs, if both partners are faithful to each other, other sources of infection being discounted here.
Being able to confide without worrying about your trust being misused in the divorce settlement.
Better health, both mental and physical.
Fewer pesky relatives (in-laws, not being limited to parents-in-law) Very Happy
Combined financial savings (This is a real plus-point, since savings begin early without the urge to selfishly spend individual earnings, on the premise that s/he would get a part of it in the settlement)
Unhealthy sibling rivalry between step-children.

Could someone post on the flip side of the issue or add to the above list?

Of course, marriage from the social/ethical point of view has advantages compared, for example, to relations based on girlfriend-ship and boyfriend-ship.

Being married gives you a significantly higher chance of staying alive after the age of 65, according to new research by four Italian universities.
Those that were divorced or separated were 16% more likely to die than married people. For those that were widowed or who had never been married, the difference was 11%. http://www.italymag.co.uk/wedding-in-italy/2007/wedding-lifestyle/marriage-lengthens-life-study-says/

Unfortunately, in this 21st century, the concept of marriage for life does not exist among the young generation of Hip Hop and Bip Bop.
In fact and in reality, the marriage between a man and a woman is a contract between the two, and this contract can be breached at any time during the life of the two couples!

I think the Catholic Churches in the West are in big troubles regarding the marriage of same sex! And here again, the bishops and Papa of Roma are in big trouble, how they are going to tackle this new phenomenon of marriage? Because the basic principle of marriage of life which is based on permanent relationship between a woman and a man, and the normal niche for raising children, will be eroded.

The question is: Can a couple of same sex cooperate with God to create new life??
I think it is impossible, immoral, impractical, and foolish!

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that the standard of Abba's "English" is directly proportionate to the stupidity of his posts? This would explain the near-intelligibility of the above rant.

I do not think so.
The posts of Abba are simple, clear, meaningful, and straightforward.

They are according to your own brand of 'cognition', but count me in as another who couldn't make head or tail of what you were trying to convey in your previous 'post'.
