On a more positive note, sometimes job satisfaction plays a part. I have worked at jobs where the pay was lousy by the standards of what I should be asking for but the job was really enjoyable and the bosses were really good. The hours were not a couple of hours a week but relatively decent. It`s a dilemma - should I be providing my years of experience in the UK and Japan and my qualifications for such a rate or is it more important to enjoy the work?

I faced the same dilemma and it got me thinking. Recently, I picked up a Saturday morning gig working with young people. The pay is less than I'd normally ask for, but in this case, I accepted the organization's offer as is because it is a community service. I thought to myself. hey, in my homecountry, I wouldn't turn down fun part-time work at a community center, so why should I behave differently in Japan?

Glenski - about Kyushu and the lack of opportunities here, my partner who works for a company here cannot move anywhere else. The lifestyle is great here and the people are generally lovely but I would not stay here re the money side if it was not for my partner. |
