Has anyone found a good store to buy English teaching materials?Every small town in Korea has stores that sell everything from games to Time magazines. I am looking for a store in Shanghai in particular. |

I would think in Shanghai that would not be so hard. Then I remember I can't even find white glue. |

Frommer's Review
The city's largest selection of English-language books and magazines (along with some maps, tapes, and CDs) can be found on the first and fourth floors of this big government-run store. They take credit cards and ship books overseas. Daily 9am to 6pm.

Get your stuff off the Net but unless you want to use Chinese textbooks. The shops that supply Western imported text books here charge Western prices and on the wages paid here it means that they cost a fortune. It's not like Korea here were one's wage allows one to afford imported stuff I'm affraid. |

The Foreign Languages Bookstore on Fuzhou Lu is indeed good, but the prices deliver a nice punch in the gut. A lot of the workbooks and imported ESL materials are sold at equivalent U.S. dollar prices, which means you'll find yourself shelling out 450 yuan per book easy. If you have the money the place is a paradise and a good place to stock up on some English-language reading. Whenever I go there I end up drooling over the nice glossy teaching stuff and wind up settling for a 18 yuan bantam classic paperback. Most of the premade materials I do use I get from websites and I do have a paid subscription to one of these that has been worth the money so far. |
