What are the requirements for becoming an ESL teacher in HK? I'm Canadian. I've worked for a few months in Taiwan, have 1yr College majoring in English and another 1yr in College with computer technology with my TEFL certification.

Thanks!

Why don't you try posting this question in the HK forum?

Sorry, I had meant Thailand. I'm looking at various countries in Asia.

Basically, you need a bachelors degree. This has as much to do with making your life better as it does with Th. regulations. Without a degree you put yourself at the bottom of the hiring list. Mostly desperate and lower level schools will offer positions.

Is that really what you want to do while you are here?

Given your current education, you can definitely find work, but as has been pointed out, without a 4 year degree you'll be unable to get the better positions.

If you're looking for work right now, though, you can find it in Thailand.

It shouldn't be too difficult finding work here in Thailand without a degree. Most of the better paying jobs require at the minimum a BA, including Thai government schools. However, many Thai government schools will hire just about anyone when they are desperate -- with or without a BA or TEFL. Now is a bad time to come looking for a job at a government school as the school year is about 2 months away from finishing and won't start again until mid-May. Private schools hire throughout the year and their requirements vary as well.
