Will 2000 USD be enough to live in China for 42 days?
I'm hoping to go to Beijing and Guangzhou (maybe Shanghai). All my flights in and out have been paid for.

Should be, but that depends on your lifestyle. If you are based in one or two cities and are not moving around too much then you should be able to live relatively comfortable. If you stay in one city you can negotiate for a cheaper rate at hotels as you will be staying longer.

that seems like a sensible sum to live a "normal" life-style. In a general sense, expect the begining of your China stay to be more "tourist type"expensive than latter on when you start to get a better idea of cheaper alternatives - and realise that many locals try to charge the unsuspecting visitor prices which are way above the odds!!!
Even in many hotels - bargain, bargain bargain - some have special offers - but will never offer them you unless you ask for them!!!!!

Thats like 15,000 kwai. Yeah, you should be able to do just fine. Good Lord man, thats like asking if you will be able to live in 15,000 dollars US if your visiting the states for 42 days. Unless your a complete fool who spends money like it was water then yes, you will have no problems. That said, my words only apply if your not going to HK or Shanghai. If your going to either of those cities, and don't have anything set up, it might be hard. You just don't know where to go for cheap things. Good luck, though honestly, I would find a job before you come here. That way, if they suck and screw you over at least you have a nice fat nest egg and a bse of operations in which to search for a new job from. A base they are paying for, not you. But hey, to each his own.
