Hey, I am currently teaching English in Korea and am getting really restless...so i want to come to Chile.

i have a few questions that im sure are always asked, but i am gonna go ahead and ask them again. When is the best time to come to Chile? I could come as early as July/August, or push it back as needed.

im an american citizen, i have two and a half years teaching experience(1.5 years in prague, 1 year in korea) plus a TESOL certificate and a BA in English Literature with a minor in business. Do you think itll be easy for me to get a job? What kind of jobs should I be expecting-i dont really want to teach kids.

i have a friend that might come with me, she is a Korean American, English is her first language, but she is obviously Korean looking. Is it necessary for her to be tefl/tesol certified to work there?

If you have any other tips or suggestions for preparing to come to Chile, please let me know...I would really appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks
Meredith

Hi Meredith
The best time to come to Chile is in April. July is ok but not great. There is lots of work in April/May.

I feel that is also best to come prepared. Make some contacts with local reputable language schools. Some say that it is best to just come and check out what is available when you arrive. This is possible but you never know what you are going to find when you arrive.

Your experience and certificate will be appreciated in a few of the schools. The truth is that many schools only want foreigners. There are schools that look for certified teachers and one or two that are very particular about who they hire.

There is a Korean population in Santiago, although not very large.
