At 35 you are old enough to handle Saudi i reckon.
You may as well go straight to Saudi because at least you will make some money and have an interesting experience as well.
I don't the other Gulf countries are really worth it financially wise and in many cases they are actually worse than working in Saudi. |

It's always interesting to find out exactly why you get such conflicting answers when asking a question. So....
Veiledsentiments: Why is working in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE or Oman better than in Saudi Arabia?
Mark100: Why do you say the opposite of Veiledsentiments? What is it about Saudi Arabia that makes it better than Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE or Oman?
thanks,

Saudi is a place that Westerners go to teach for generally two reasons, they are converts to Islam or they need to make as much money as possible.

So, according to you, VS, there are no Westerners who were born Muslims? The 'Westerner' status is exclusively reserved for people who were born 'non-Muslims'? Do you perhaps make associations to the word 'Westerner'? A Muslim can't be a Westerner then, by birth. Anything else to qualify for the 'born Westerner' pigeonhole? Skin colour? Height? Body mass index? Beautiful. Very liberal minded.
I would be a bit more careful with wording next time. Maybe you are not aware, but there are born Muslims in the West, and they are at least as Westerners as anyone else.
I am not Muslim and I am not speaking on behalf of anyone but I find your comment very upsetting.
Thank you. |

Yes, there are millions of muslims born in the west and many come to Saudi to teach because they want to be in their holy land. We recently had a case of 2 of our British muslim teachers refusing to abide by the contract they signed because 'ties' were deemed 'western' clothing and therefore unislamic. This them and us thing works 2 ways....that's what is really annoying. His point however, was that a lot of converts also come here.
Anybody who's lived and worked here for a long time tends to have views that are not pc in the west but they're a darn lot closer to the reality of it all.
Saudi is boring but you save a lot. All the other countries have fun time things that cost a lot. That's the real toss up. |

I think your attitude sucks! You may be correct in what you say, but I sure would hate to have to sit through one of your classes -- as a student or evaluator. |

Mr desert traveller needs to learn to read more carefully or use his dictionary so that he can understand plain English... he should start with the meaning of the word 'generally.' Obviously it is new to him and made him unable to comprehend what was a simple statement of the facts as I have seen them.
His mileage may vary...
