Forgive me if this concern has been posted before. I am working on my Masters in Teaching and ESOL endorsment in Oregon. When I am through I would like to teach ESL abroad. Which are the best countries for someone with these qualifications for a close-to-US salary? Thanks.

For those of us who have been away from the US market for a while, how about giving us an idea of what an ESL teacher makes there? I would imagine the salary varies with the region.

Also, does having "ESOL endorsement" mean you are licensed to teach in primary and secondary schools? If so, consider international schools.

If you are an experienced teacher - international schools in more developed countries will pay a roughly equivalent salary. If you are newish in the trade, then universities in the Middle East will also get you close to or above wages in the States.

However - if your interest is the bottom line savings - often Korea and Taiwan come up as good college/university options also. You earn less, but often can save a good amount.

With your credentials - don't waste your time with language schools - go right to tertiary schools.

Thanks for the feedback. ESOL teachers here around the states make from 30k to 38k per year starting out. It's not that I wish to live like a king or anything it's just that I have expenses here that will not lower while I am away like rent and food will in most cases. I don't have much experience teaching outside what it has taken to get my masters. When I am finshed I will be certified to teach primary school and ESOL.

I make about $30,000 in Oman--which goes much further than $30,000 in the US because it's tax-free and I get free accommodation. And the cost of living is fairly low.
