I've noticed more and more posts talking about crime and how dangerous it is in San Jose (apparently regardless of neighborhood) etc etc. I'm getting tired of it, so here's a news flash for you. Yeah, San Jose can be very unforgiving, but if you exercise caution and street wits you're gonna be fine. Downtown San Jose is not a cool place to walk around alone after nine in the evening, no. But there are a gazillion neighborhoods that are much better - Guadalupe, Moravia, Pavas, Heredia etc.

The point is this - take it easy, guys. San Jose is not merely a cesspool of violent crime. Certainly it can be dangerous and very harsh. But mostly it's a rather noisy city filled with pretty cool people.

Ask yourself - can the case made against crime-filled San Jose be likened to your own city? I've talked to people from Orlando, New York and Los Angeles who say that those cities are much the same. Some neighborhoods that are pretty bad, some that are all right, some that are quite nice. Certainly it's the same in Oslo.

Be critical of what you read and what you do, and don't start running around in circles like startled hens once you hear about something bad.

And please use the search function before you ask questions. If it's a general question about San Jose, chances are it's been answered before.

Thanks for putting it in perspective!
