Dear user001,
These 'cities' are located in the very middle of Taiwan. Very few Westerners live in Nantou County, so you would feel quite isolated. It is the only 'landlocked' county in all of Taiwan.
The locals would be quite friendly, I suppose. I think that a large group of 'native' Taiwanese live in Nantou.
Puli was hit very hard in 1999 when the big earthquake hit on September 21. I suppose that some 'scars' still remain.
Let us know if you have any further questions.
Best wishes,
Taylor |

| I worked in Nantou City for over a year. Feel free to PM me with any questions. I have to say it just isn't what most will be looking for. Even if you are not looking for city life, it isn't pleasantly "away from things." |

Both towns are very isolated. There is no train service to either, and bus service is limited. However, there is a Puli express bus that travels between Puli and Taichung City, so you can get away if you need to.
You would do well to ask about the schools that have offered you employment before burying yourself way out there. Avoid Shakespeare American English School in Nantou, and that other one in Mingjian owned by Virginia (I think the school is called Mingshung). |

| Dr. Zoidberg's advice is very sound. I've been working and living in Puli for 3 1/2 years now. Please, feel free to PM me. |
