Hi all!

Anyone with any new info. about ADU? Do they give: Accommodtion (if 'yes' is it any good?), medical insurance, end of contract bonus. What sort of salary would be acceptable? Thanks.

Melt, have you seen the most recent threads on ADU? I haven't seen anything positive on that place since they opened.

Someone said recently (on another thread) that ADU had their teachers who were on short-term contracts share accommodation.

End of contract bonus is likely in line w/ UAE labour law: 3 weeks of salary for every year of a completed contract (on your leaving salary). Once you've done 6 years, it becomes 1 month of salary for every year of complete service.

This depends on your qualifications. Do you have MA TESOL?

Confused

ok, I have been here for 3 months, and I am looking for a new job now

I have over 10 years experience

I wanted to write soemthing here, somethign always came up

here is the Short Version:

unless you desperately need money, find a better enviroenment

I'll explain this statement more later, oh and a few facts

a) they made 30 new job offers last month, 8 teachers refused

b) they are 3 days behind scheulde with new classes b/c they could get enough teachers for the new semester

c) they got ZERO contract renewals

d) housing is pretty, but very far from town and there are very specific rules about no beer, no ladies, no loud music, etc

e) we have 21 days between semesters, we only got 4 days "off" for Eid, if we didnt arrive to the office on the "work" days we were penalized or warned- this is why i have time to write this

and, we are only allowed to take vacation during approved vacation times, by requesting the days off 10 days before

f) they just re-assgiend a 60 year old PhD to a different level/class 3 days before classes start after she did 14 days of prep for the class- i think this sums up the blatant lack of respect/communication/planning factor here

g) I got a 1 year offer letter- still haven't seen a real contract and I still don't have my legal working visa-

the school sponsored transport for a visa run, touch the border and come back, and we paid for this out of our own pocket

the only worse job I ever had was teaching Saudi Military all male Naval Cadets at TINs in KSA (that job really reallly relaly sucked)

oh, and they dont offer 12 month contracts anymore, just 6 month-

this is so they don't have to pay the year end bonus, don't have to legally give paid vaction days, no health insurance and there is a weird UAE law if a company fires you after 6 months of employment for casue, the company must provide 2 months of paid salary as renumeration (supposedly)

the new 6 month contract convienantly (SP) circumvents all these issues

all that being said, they do pay $3000 USD a month tax free- which is why I have not done a runner

although we have had 3 runners in 2 months out of a staff of about 40 +/-

oh, and they fired a gal after 10 days for "not following procedure"

good luck
