How are non-Mexican men with beards received in Mexico--generally and in the role of TEFL teacher? |

My personal observation is that it doesn't make any difference, at least at the university where I taught. |

I would say stubble is probably not the way to go. They kind of see it as unclean. They're obsessed with cleanliness here. I don't know why when the country is 50% dust and 50% maids pushing it around. Anyway, I'd go clean-shaven or full beard. In company classes especially as stubble=hungover. |

I agree with TLWH. One great thing I love about Mexico is you can be yourself and people don't judge you too much. I say "too much" because in the work force it is always good measure to keep one's self professional. |

I work in a Catholic prep school in Mexico City and I have a beard that alternates between stubble and 1/2 inch long. I keep it trimmed, and have no problems at all other than my students calling me Dr. House.
Glad I got rid of the ponytail I had, though.
