Some of you will have seen that ''El Mundo'' has given prominence to Blair's conversion to the Church of Rome. Can't say I give a t*** which religion Tony chooses but I never cease to be amazed by the interest aroused in Spain by our countrymen. The Beckhams, Kate Moss, Pete Docherty, Kate Moss, McCartney, Jagger, the Royals etc. The list is endless. We don't give a f*** about their Royal Family, do we? Why are they so curious about us? |

Dunno, but it's a hell of a lot better than them associating us with random Brit hooligans and that Costa del Sol murderer/rapist Tony King... |

As the Spanish press isn't allowed to report any scandal about the Spanish Royal family, don't they just use the British mob as substitute laughing-stocks ? |

A remark likely to be offensive to Spanish people viewing this forum. |

...I didn't realize any Spanish people read this forum, but just in case they do then I'm sure they realize it was a joke with no offence intended |

One in very poor taste... And the assumption that no Spanish people read this forum is also questionable. |

It may be Xmas, but you seem to be forgetting -- like the original poster, perhaps -- that (a) you Brits (etc) depend on Spanish people for your jobs and (b) that a large number (majority?) of English teachers in Spain are not native speakers and are Spanish themselves.
Your assumption that no Spanish person reads this forum is a false one. |

Come on SirKirby! Moore's comments were innocuous.
Anyway, getting back to my point. Why are Spanish people so interested in ''Madeleine'' and not in ''Yeremi'', the unfortunate little boy who disappeared in Canarias months ago. |

I don't think it's most people, it's just the Burberry wearing Oxbridge wannabe elite who write the newspapers- I think they must like the fact that class is out in the open in the UK whereas they have to pretend they are all the same in Spain |

It does depend on where you go. This summer every ticket booth, shop window, cafe etc had a picture of Madelaine....on the south coast.
However when I hiked through northern Spain for 7 weeks this summer I'm pretty certain I didnt see one picture of her apart from in the English papers. Yeremi however was in most cafes in the smallest village in Navarra to the big towns like Leon and Burgos.
Sirkrkby, you made me laugh out loud. I'm glad you were only joking else i would have had to mock you
and the Spanish sure do know how to put away the beak |
